Passed out Student 2017 at College of Engineering Guindy
Greetings from Merlin Joice Amalanathan
I completed B.E. Geo-informatics Programme from College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. My CGPA is 9.15/10. In this ad, you have asked for a person with GIS experience of one year. Though, I am a fresher I am applying for this job. Since I believe that my previous projects and internships are all done on the GIS platform. So, if my portfolio seems interested to you, there are chances of myself getting selected for the job and build my GIS career effectively.
I always have a long term passion towards solving problems related to GIS which was almost evident through my projects which were done during the internships at CMMACS, Bengaluru and Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru during my second and third years.
The projects carried out at my college also are related to solving problems with the help of GIS which can be explained as follows:
The project carried out from during my second and third year on my own aimed at locating environmentally safer electronic waste disposal sites for the Chennai city. In my mini project at college, I attempted studying the spectral characteristics of organic and inorganic crops through field spectra collected and generation of vegetative indices to get an idea to differentiate the organic and inorganic crops based upon their characteristics to make people choose the organic crops without any misconceptions. The main project carried out at my college aimed at identifying the level of Cancer risk using Industrial Exposure and Cancer Occurrences for the study area (Erode, Tamil Nadu, India – an industrialized place considered to be the cancer capital of Tamil Nadu).
To add upon, all the projects carried out by me uses GIS as the important platform which proves to be very suitable and vital in solving real world problems. I have a strong GIS knowledge which is my most favorite subject in my curriculum and have a good knowledge in working with computer systems. I always have the autonomy towards learning new software and understanding concepts. I also used field-based instruments both in the curriculum (Total Station, GPS, Levelling Instruments, Stereo-plotters, Magnetic Compass, Plane Table and Theodolite) and in my mini project (SpectroRadiometer and Handheld GPS).
Though, Geo-Informatics Engineering is considered to be an emerging course in the field of Engineering in the Indian context I have opted for it especially to fulfill my passion of solving problems prevailing today with the help of GIS. I heard that “Maple Leaf Forestry Ltd.” is doing a great job in enhancing innovation and concentrates more on providing innovative and sustainable solutions for which I am very much interested and keen. I feel immense pleasure that I as a GIS Engineer at “Maple Leaf Forestry Ltd.” can help in this regard much effectively. I would be very much interested in knowing whether my work portfolio suits the post of GIS Technician at your organization.
If given an opportunity, I would apply my practical knowledge in handling field instruments and theoretical knowledge learnt as well to solve the problems given to me. I guarantee that upon selected for the opportunity I would be very much thankful and I will continue to do the problems given to me with all my heart and my soul. Looking forward to a good intimation from you and with lots of dreams and hopes attached is my curriculum vitae along with this mail.
