Reporting to the Supervisor of Capital Planning within the Public Works Commission, the GIS Technologist is part of a team responsible for the maintenance and advancement of the Public Works Geographic Information System (GIS) including geospatial data management and mapping for municipal infrastructure, support for preventative maintenance programs, prioritizing assignments, delegating duties to students and providing guidance to staff within the GIS/Capital Planning division of the Facilities and Asset Management Department.

The position will assist in ensuring municipal geospatial and attribute data and mapping is accurately maintained by coordinating processes, procedures and performing quality control, providing technical assistance for applications associated with the management of municipal infrastructure such as maintenance management systems (activity tracking), development of tools to assist data collection, coordinating and supervising the research, collection, entry and maintenance of municipal infrastructure data, and creating complex mapping products for various internal and external uses within the Corporation. This role will also provide mapping support to the City’s Emergency Operations Centre EOC) as required.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have the equivalent of graduation from a three-year community college program in Civil Engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems or similar program, and be eligible for membership with OACETT.
  • Minimum of three years related work experience.
  • Advanced application and database knowledge of a variety of software packages is required as well as the ability to analyze, interpret and present municipal infrastructure data.
  • Applicants must have experience capturing, storing, manipulating, analyzing, and presenting data using ESRI ArcGIS software and experience in developing procedures and automated tools for extracting, manipulating, analyzing and comparing information from databases and information management systems. Experience with ArcGIS and ESRI extensions such as Network and Spatial Analyst, Collector, Survey123 and experience developing Web applications using ArcGIS Server online would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with ESRI Local Government Data Model is an asset.
